Wanaparthy Palace (Mustafa Mahal)

Wanaparthy Palace (Mustafa Mahal)

Wanaparthy Palace, popularly known as Mustafa Mahal, is a historic royal residence that reflects the grandeur of the Wanaparthy Samsthanam in Telangana. Built in the early 20th century during the reign of Raja Rameshwar Rao II, the palace beautifully combines British, Mughal, and South Indian architectural styles. Originally called Ram Sagar Bungalow, it was later named Mustafa Mahal after a revered local saint. The palace served as the administrative hub of the Wanaparthy estate, which covered about 640 square miles. In 1959, Raja Rameshwar Rao generously donated the palace and its lands to establish Telangana's first polytechnic, the K.D.R. Government Polytechnic, inaugurated by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Today, while the palace continues to serve educational and administrative purposes, its arches, domes, and courtyards still stand as reminders of its regal past. It remains an important landmark showcasing the region's rich heritage and history.

Pangal Fort

Pangal Fort

Pangal Fort, also known as Pangal Khilla, is an impressive hill fort located near Wanaparthy in Telangana. Built in the 11th–12th century by the Kalyani Chalukyas, the fort once served as a strategic military stronghold. Spread across a vast hilly landscape, it is famous for its seven sturdy granite gateways, with the main entrance called Mundlagavini. The fort's design cleverly uses the natural rocky terrain for defense, making it nearly inaccessible to enemies. Within its boundaries are ancient water ponds, rock-cut structures, and the ruins of Uyyala Mandapam. Over centuries, the fort witnessed conflicts involving the Bahmani, Vijayanagara, Padmanayaka, and Qutb Shahi dynasties. Later, it became a hideout during rebellions against the Nizam. Today, Pangal Fort is a popular destination for trekking, offering adventure, history, and panoramic views, making it a must-visit site for heritage and nature lovers alike.
