Vemulawada Rajarajeshwara Temple
Vemulawada Rajarajeshwara Temple is one of the most revered pilgrimage sites in Telangana, located about 35 km from Karimnagar. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, worshipped here as Rajarajeshwara Swamy. Built during the 8th to 10th centuries by the Chalukya kings, the temple is famous for its architectural grandeur and spiritual significance. A unique feature is the presence of a dharma gundam (holy tank), where devotees take a ritual bath before offering prayers, believing it to cleanse sins. The temple complex also houses shrines for deities like Raja Rajeshwari Devi, Laxmi Narasimha Swamy, and Kodanda Rama. It is often called the "Dakshina Kashi" (Varanasi of the South) because of its sacred status. The temple attracts thousands of devotees, especially during Maha Shivaratri and Karthika Masam, making it a vibrant center of faith, tradition, and culture.
Elgandal Fort
Elgandal Fort is a historic hill fort located about 10 km from Karimnagar, on the banks of the Manair River. Built during the Kakatiya dynasty in the 12th century, the fort later came under the rule of the Musunuri Nayaks, Bahmanis, Qutb Shahis, Mughals, and Nizams. The fort is famous for its strong defensive walls, massive entrance gate, and unique architectural features like the "Teen Minar" — three minarets that are said to sway when shaken. The fort also houses several ancient structures, including temples dedicated to Neelakantha and Narasimha Swamy, and mosques like the Alamgir Mosque. There are also dargahs of Muslim saints, showcasing its cultural diversity. Once surrounded by a crocodile-filled moat, the fort is believed to have a secret tunnel connecting it to Manakondur. Today, Elgandal Fort stands as a symbol of Telangana's rich history, offering stunning views and a glimpse into its glorious past.
Kondagattu Anjaneya Swamy Temple
Kondagattu Anjaneya Swamy Temple is a famous and ancient temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman, located around 35 km from Karimnagar in Telangana. Nestled amidst hills and natural beauty, the temple holds great spiritual significance and attracts thousands of devotees. According to legend, the temple's idol of Anjaneya Swamy was discovered by a cowherd over 300 years ago. The present temple structure was rebuilt about 160 years ago by Krishna Rao Deshmukh. The temple complex features a striking gopuram, and also has shrines for Lord Venkateswara, Goddess Lakshmi, and Alwars. Devotees believe that a holy dip in the temple's "Dharma Gundam" tank washes away sins and brings blessings. The temple is particularly famous for the 40-day Hanuman Deeksha, which devotees undertake to fulfill their vows, seeking relief from health issues and mental ailments. The temple comes alive during Hanuman Jayanti with grand celebrations, attracting pilgrims from far and wide.
